I like my Kindle… but it does have some drawbacks. Obviously it is pricey, so I’m careful when carrying it out taking it around. I do like having so many books in such a portable format.
The drawbacks are just DRM stuff… if I get a book on Kindle, finish it, and want to loan it to a friend, I have to give them my Kindle. Can’t sell to a used bookstore, etc.
What I like the most:
1) Surprising number of free books. Check out the Kindle bestseller list at Amazon – often, several of the top books are free. So, not just old stuff out of copyright. Granted, not every book offered for free is good, many look terrible, but I’ve gotten some decent ones.
2) Samples. You can sample the first chapter or so. I use that to weed out ones I’m iffy on. I could do this in a real book store, if I drove out to one, found the book, and stood there reading it… not quite as convenient.
